Teacher: Shows the student a new Consonant Picture Card, i.e., t -tent, and points to the picture.
Student: Says the word for the picture, “tent.”
Teacher: Helps the student hear and say the first sound in the word.
Student: Says the first sound, “/t/”.*
Teacher: Gives the student the name for the first letter, “t.”
Student: Writes** the letter on the card. Says the letter, its sound and the word, “t, /t/, tent.”

*The letter, i.e. /t/, between slash marks means that the letter’s sound is to be said, not the letter’s name.
** Writing Information: Whenever the student “writes” a letter or word on a card, the student may do so by:

-Tracing the letter or word with his or her finger.
-Writing the letter or word with a dry erase marker on a laminated card or on a
plastic sheet placed over the card.
-Writing the letter or word with any marker directly on a copy of the card.
-Writing the letter or word on tracing paper placed over the card.

Note: Dots and arrows on the Consonant & Vowel Picture Cards show the student where to start writing the letters.
